Virgo is the sixth constellation of the
Western zodiac and is symbolically represented by the Maiden. Mythologically,
Virgo has been associated with the goddess of justice, since the adjoining
constellation of Libra seems to represent her scales. More frequently
Virgo is linked with Demeter, the Greek goddess of nature, of crops
and of the harvest. The principal star in the constellation of Virgo
is called Spica, one of the brightest stars overall, and representing
the ear of grain that Demeter holds in her hand.
Astrologically, Virgo is the ruler of the sixth house, an area of the
horoscope with clearly defined associations. First among these is
health, so this topic is always of interest to anyone born under this
sign. This doesn’t mean that Virgos suffer particularly from
poor health, but it does imply a pronounced awareness of the need to
support and to maintain, the body’s smooth and effective functioning. |

Many Virgos pay a lot of attention to
their diet, with a significant proportion observing dietary guidelines
of one sort or another. Virgo rules the intestines, so there is often
a notable sensitivity towards certain kinds of foods, especially at
times of emotional stress. Since anxiety is always a pronounced component
of your character, there is naturally a general perception of the need
to take care. Many Virgos are vegetarian, observe special restrictions
because of food allergies and intolerances, or are simply seeking a
healthy balance from as wholesome a diet as you can muster. In all
matters Virgo has a preference for the unpretentious and the natural.
You like fresh food, raw food and food that
is organic, also you prefer your meals not to have been
processed excessively.
Most Virgos also appreciate the importance of regular exercise when
it comes to maintaining your body in tip-top condition. Some of you
like sports, but the majority read around the subject of fitness initially
and then, with your perennial interest in being as efficient as possible,
organise the minimum required in order to keep things running effectively.
Virgos have a gift for detail and a special insight into the optimal
functioning of intricate systems like the human body. You are also
a part of the mutable quadruplicity, so will usually be busy anyway.
This in turn, helps to keep you slim.
Work is the second connotation of the sixth house. You’ll often
hear Virgo described as the worker of the zodiac. It is definitely
true that those born under this sign aren’t
known for sitting around. Work is connected with all of the earth signs,
but what is being described differs slightly in each instance. Taurus
governs paid employment, financial reward and what you bring home for
your efforts. Capricorn rules your career ambitions, reputation and
the hopes and objectives that you have for the longer term. Virgo is
connected with the everyday grind, with the daily minutiae of your
regular employment, the atmosphere within the working environment,
and your relationships with your co-workers and employees. |

Unless you’re a Virgo, this probably
doesn’t
sound very exciting, but it does confer a great reliability to the
Virgo character and a trustworthiness where regular routine tasks are
concerned. Virgos always have plenty to do, whether within the sphere
of paid employment or simply in addressing the various duties, obligations
and responsibilities which each day comprises. Virgo is strongly connected
with tidiness, with organisation and with cleanliness. While this
doesn’t invariably apply in all cases, it is likely that a notable
proportion of your time will be taken up with routine tasks like cleaning,
washing and tidying up. In most cases a very honest and genuine pleasure,
can be derived from attending to such things.
It may not do it for everybody, but it definitely does it for you!
In addition Virgo is a helpful sign and not one to decline when asked
for assistance. Indeed, you frequently offer your input where chaos
is encountered or where there is a problem that needs to be solved.
This leads towards the third association of the sixth house, that of
service. As a Virgo you love to help those around you, since this affirms
your sense of your own value and your position within the world.
Your help is usually received gratefully. You give selflessly, but
are always pleased when the recipient makes some effort to help themselves.
In other cases, despite your authentic and legitimate intentions, your
offer is taken as unwarranted interference, unfortunately lending more
credence to the alternative perception that Virgos are nitpicking and
liable to criticise. In such circumstances others could usefully remind
themselves that you are actually the most critical of yourself. The
flaws you perceive in your own character are very obvious to you,
and you think, far too numerous for you to bother mentioning to anybody
else …
Above all the typical Virgo is quiet and unassuming. You possess an
enviable patience with intricate and complex systems, so without your
attention, much of today’s world would soon be grinding to a
shuddering halt. Minus the benefit of your often undervalued contribution,
the zodiac would certainly be a far less well-organised place. It’s
a shame people don’t notice your efforts, as much as they should! |
